# Rules and verification

> Understand verification modes, manual answers, role delivery and reconsent.

## Read the server rules

Open [the member portal](https://bot.aegissentinellab.com/servers), choose your server and open its rules. `/rules list` also gives you the rules-page link. Rule text belongs to the server; changing website language does not translate it.

## Choose a verification mode

| Mode | Member experience |
| - | - |
| Basic | Explicitly agree to the current server rules and bot terms |
| Manual | Agree on the website, answer configured questions and await staff review |
| Site | Open a personal token link from the Discord Verify button, agree and complete hCaptcha |

Manual mode supports **1–3 questions**, each at most **45 characters**. Each answer is limited to **1,000 characters**. A member cannot submit duplicate pending applications and may submit at most five applications per server per day.

Recruitment questions are a different setting; see [Recruitment and promotions](https://docs.aegissentinellab.com/en/recruitment-promotions.md).

## Review manual applications

Authorized staff can review answers at `/dashboard/{guild_id}/verification` or through the Discord review card. The reviewer needs `verification.review` plus the separate approve/reject permission for the action. Applicants cannot approve their own applications.

Approval queues role delivery. Submission alone grants no role. If the Discord review card could not be delivered, eligible staff can retry the card from the dashboard without approving the application.

## Tokens, captcha and role delivery

Site links expire and are single-use. Request a new link from Discord if one has expired or was consumed. Complete a fresh captcha after a failed submission or a restored browser page; do not resubmit a previously used challenge response.

Successful verification queues the configured member role and removal of the unverified badge. Discord hierarchy, current agreement and membership checks still apply. Failed deliveries are visible in configuration and can be retried after the underlying permission or connectivity issue is resolved.

## Rule changes and reconsent

Editing rule text and publishing a version are separate actions. Publishing a new, unused version queues reconsent and starts the configured grace period. Existing punishment references remain when a rule is deactivated.

Applications bind to the rules, questions and terms shown to the member. Changes before completion/review require the member to read and agree again. Members who miss the configured reconsent deadline can lose verified status.
